Jim Anthony began his real estate career in 1979 in Sherman Oaks, California, shortly after graduating from the University of Southern California. He joined Grubb & Ellis Company as an industrial broker, focusing on the northeast sector of the San Fernando Valley. In 1980, he earned the “Rookie of the Year” award for the industrial division in his office, establishing his early reputation for excellence.
In 1983, Jim relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, to serve as Director of Leasing and Property Management for NAI Carolantic Realty. By 1987, he founded Anthony & Co. Commercial Real Estate. What began with a modest portfolio of clients, quickly grew into one of the largest full-service commercial real estate operations in Eastern North Carolina. During the firm’s first seven years, it expanded so rapidly that it relocated five times to accommodate its growth.
In 1999, Jim launched a successful development division within the company, spearheading projects in Myrtle Beach and Charleston, South Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Niagara Falls, New York; and across North Carolina.
Over the past four decades, Jim has bought and sold more than $1 billion worth of diverse real estate. Today, he is recognized as one of the most respected and experienced leaders in the commercial real estate industry across the southeastern United States. Jim now leads APG Companies, successor to Anthony & Co., as a serial entrepreneur and community developer, as “APG uses its God-given gifts to build people and places for better lives.”
